Just been reading through some of the other blogs on this site... My word there are a lot of mental christians on here...
Now i have nothing against religion (as such) but can't understand how, in modern society especially, people still buy it and to such extraordinary lengths (something doesn't look right with extraordinary - think its the a and o being together. Is that how its spelt? bollocks who cares...).
My main beef with "organised" religion (other than it causing more wars and upset than jedward) is the fingers-in-the-ears, la-la-la i'm not listening approach to anything that even remotely questions their faith or even slightly contradicts anything they say. I used to work with a lad who was a bit religious and truly belived the world was only created 10,000 years ago, by a fella with a big white beard who sits on a cloud having a bit of a laugh with us all... Now when he was asked "If the world was only created 10,000 years ago how do you explain dinosaur fossils from millions of years ago?" his reply was "They were put there by the devil"
Now i don't know about you, but the actual story that millions of years ago there were these massive lizards running round tearing it up, then all of a sudden being wiped out (in an nutshell, a really small nutshell) is far more interesting than "the devil put some bones in the ground to stop people believing in god" but he wouldn't have it, just would not accept that these things actually exsisted... BUT a big bearded fella living in the clouds - thats perfectly acceptable...
It just winds me up that people would rather believe that we were molded from some sort of clay by a big omnipotent Tony Hart or Neil Buchanan (nostalgia fans). I would much rather believe in the majesty of science, the fact that we are here (and the way we are) by complete and utter chance, if anything was to change by even the smallest percentage - we'd be toast... I appreciate that religion gives people something to believe in and gives them hope etc. and that is a wonderful thing but i just think that the real stories behind things (i.e - evolution, D.N.A, all that kind of stuff) is much more interesting and exiting than "some fella made them", the fact that the human brain, or the eye or digestive system or whatever you want is so complex and has taken millions and millions of years to get to the point it is now, (in fact, rather than brain, eye etc. read LIFE) to take all of that, millions and millions of years of trial and error and just say "nah mate, that was all created in 6 days..." just pisses me off...
